Mountains and Hills

Mountains fascinate me ever since I was a child. When my family discussed where where to go for the next summer vacation, my vote always went to mountain destinations. Back in the day, we used to live in Cologne which meant a 6-hours drive to the nearest serious mountains – the Austrian-Bavarian Alps. By moving to Munich I was able to cut this down to 1–2 hours. Going on a hike for a day is a favorite weekend activity of my wife and me these days.

The best time for taking pictures is probably in winter. Snow-capped peaks make for impressive sights, temperatures below the freezing point help with clear views. Getting similar sights on hazy summer days would require an extremely early start or even an overnight stay at a mountain hut.
